Voyager2 is Now 15hrs 42min of light travel time away from earth

The crazy part is that we're still in communication with it. That is simply amazing. The Voyager 2 is 112 times further away from Earth than the sun is. The spacecraft had started to send us nonsense data, which was worrying. A team combed through its software and found a single bit which if flipped would produce exactly that particular nonsense data. They figured a cosmic ray must have hit that bit and flipped it. They sent up a software patch to flip back the bit, and Voyager started working properly again.

And after we flipped it back, some alien out there somewhere started saying "what the hell?? I had just fixed it! Now it's started speaking nonsense again!" Voyager 2 is going to come back for us. Soon it will tweet "I am currently 15 hrs 41 mins 37 sec of light-travel time from Earth" and we'll all realize we're doomed. Voyager2: Is that a crab with a top hat and a monocle? Thats where I draw the line. Come on Master Chief let's get the fuck outta here!

They were meant to explore space, but on the new found planet realise that it's actually a desolate Earth, 2 million years in the future. Together they try to find out what happened, leading to a conflict between the two highly intelligent robots: repopulate earth or not? Voyagers, coming to theaters soon. They are bros, but they just differ in opinion, which goes on for millions of years in the movie. At one point Voyager 1 owns one part of the planet and Voyager 2 the other. One is for the mass production of AI robots, and the other for trying to recreate human life with samples. In the end the earth experiment goes too far and both robots go seperate ways into space again.

What began as a conflict over the transfer of consciousness from flesh to machines escalated into a war which has decimated a million worlds. The Core and the Arm have all but exhausted the resources of a galaxy in their struggle for domination. Both sides now crippled beyond repair, the remnants of their armies continue to battle on ravaged planets, their hatred fueled by over four thousand years of total war. This is a fight to the death. For each side, the only acceptable outcome is the complete elimination of the other...

That's the measurement I use to tell people how far away I am when I'm late. "hey! I'm 8.505390e-13ly away" by the time they figure it out I will probably still be late.I started hanging farther back in traffic. I read here that if enough people gave more space between them and the car in front the traffic would flow easier. I stared at these words way too long to find out what they mean and why I've never heard them before. That in itself tells you something about the German language. Wait a second, those were supposed to be pants? I thought you said, "Cut him some slack". I didn't realize "slack" was plural. Great, now we've got a hungry midget trapped in a satellite without pants. The aliens are going to get the totally wrong idea about us.

That's about 0.0017 light years away. It would take the Enterprise D about 18 seconds at warp 9.6 (top speed) to reach Voyager 2. For comparison, the USS Voyager would take about 4 seconds at warp 9.975 to reach its namesake. Would that even need to matter? They have fake gravity inside the ship, so that they can stand. It could probably be used to instantly counteract any insane G-force that the ship goes through when accelerating to warp speed so they don't all instantly die. This is napkin math/logic though, and it does not take any of the weird things that happen when you travel at light speed. So I could be very wrong about my logic.

It would be much worse. For one, due to time dilation, vessels moving at 0.5c would have messages distorted. When they receive these messages (assuming alpha centauri location), it would take 9 years for a response to be received. Just think about that, we would not get a response from our colony until 2025 if sent today. The messages would be sent at 1c, but a vehicle traveling at 0.5c would encounter time dilation. In short, a 10 second audio recording would be played back in the frame of reference of the 0.5c vessel as if the message was 20 seconds long. The message would be like replaying a tape recorder at half speed. These are rough estimates.

The nearest star (alpha Centauri) is 4.4 light years away. That's nothing compared to the edge of the galaxy. By comparison, sea voyagers in the 1500's spent 2-3 months getting to the americas. But going to Alpha Centauri is more like going from France to England. I've read a book with this in it before, I forget the name. When the original craft got to the prospect planet the humans had already colonized the planet and evolved in different ways from the original crew. When they arrived they felt ostracized and hopped back on the colony ship and went back looking for another place.
