UET USA to Deliver Four Sets Container-Type All-vanadium Liquid Flow Energy Storage Battery System

When the wind is calm, the fan does not generate too much power; when the sun is down, the solar panels also produce too much electricity. But when the wind blows and the sun shines, the Snohomishshire Utility Grid (PUD) can store enough power into the new all-vanadium flow battery, which can support up to eight hours of electricity in 1000 homes.

PUD said these giant batteries can also help achieve open market power balances. For example, when people come home from work to open a variety of electrical appliances, electricity consumption soared. This often forces the grid to buy electricity from the open market at high prices in order to secure demand for electricity.

All of the giant vanadium flow cells used in the substation were supplied by UET, and each cell was built in a 20-foot-long ocean shipping container. Each battery has four containers, each loaded with liquid electrolyte and other equipment. Each container is equipped with a computer control center, including the battery management system, and can quickly switch between the charge and discharge equipment.

A total of four sets of all vanadium liquid flow storage batteries were installed in the Everett substation. UET said that these batteries are expected to be able to serve 20 years, only a small amount of occasional maintenance. I believe this will be by far the world's largest container flow battery energy storage system. The batteries will be evaluated by the Snohomish County utility grid, along with a lithium-ion battery system installed in 2014.

These full-vanadium flow batteries provide long-term storage capacity, whether on the charge end or on the discharge side, said Mr. Weed, vice president of UET. UET also has a containerized all-vanadium flow battery storage system in the Pullman Avista Run, the third ongoing project in Italy. Unlike lithium-ion batteries, these all-vanadium flow batteries do not have any risk of fire, UET said, the battery is based on PNNL laboratory developed a new vanadium ion technology, the battery through the pump will be transported to the vanadium electrolyte stack . Mainly by the steel pile, plastic, carbon and other materials. As with other batteries, one side of the tank as the cathode, the other side of the tank as the anode.

It is reported that the delivery of four sets of vanadium redox flow battery system used in all the electrolyte from China's Dalian Bo Rong New Materials Co., Dalian Bo Rong New Materials Co., Ltd. is the leading supplier of vanadium electrolyte.
